Our Favourite Nutrition Reads

There is an abundance of nutrition information at our fingertips, yet there are still so many things we get wrong about our health. With a new ‘diet’ book launching almost every other day, it’s no wonder people are confused.

We’re often asked for recommendations when it comes to our favourite nutrition related books that are BACKED BY SCIENCE. So in this article, we’re sharing some of our favourite reads!

 

In defence of food – Michael Pollan

Michael Pollan is not a dietitian, however, he is a journalist that has an incredibly thorough and science-based understanding of food and nutrition. We are huge fans of all Michael’s books and his general philosophy towards food and nutrition. This book is debunks common myths, teaches you to ditch diets and instead fall in love with food.

 

Gut – Giulia Enders

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain or our heart, yet we know very little about how it works. New research shows that gut bacteria can play a role in everything from obesity and allergies to Alzheimer’s. This book delves into the the ins and outs of gut health from the basics of nutrient absorption to the latest science linking bowel bacteria and mental health.

 

Eat Yourself Heathy – Megan Rossi

Megan’s book uncovers the answers the common questions people have when it comes to gut health. Drawing from the latest scientific research, we love the way Megan explains how understanding your gut can help with successful weight management, improved mood and fitness levels, healthier skin and boosted immunity.

 

The Mind Gut Connection – Emeran Mayer

We really enjoyed reading this book, however, it is quite heavy from a science point of view. It combines cutting-edge neuroscience with the latest discoveries on the human microbiome. It shows how to keep the brain-gut communication clear and balanced.

 

Nutrition for Life – Catherine Saxelby

Catherine is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and she’s written a number of books. We love Nutrition for Life because it covers many popular and trendy topics like veganism, super foods, insects, plant based burgers and so on!

16:8 Intermittent Fasting – Jaime Rose Chambers

Jaime is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and this book delves into the science behind intermittent fasting. Jaime believes this is one of the easiest and most effective tools for healthy weight control and uses it frequently with her clients. There’s lots of myths and information on social media about fasting so we found this book really useful in understanding the facts!

 

Brain Food – Dr Joanna McMillian

Dr Joanna Mcmillian is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and we are big fans of all Jo’s books. Dr Jo has a science-based background and this book highlights the importance of eating for a healthy brain. We have tried many of the recipes and they are delicious!

 

Omnivore’s Dilemma – Michael Pollan

Another one of Michael Pollan’s books that we thoroughly enjoyed reading. Pollan launched a national conversation about what we eat and the profound consequences that even the simplest everyday food choices have on both ourselves and the natural world.

 

The Wellness Rebel – Pixie Turner

Pixie has a no BS approach when it comes to nutrition and in this book she explores the basics of nutrition in an lighthearted and entertaining way.

The Dietitian Kitchen – Kerri Major

Kerri is a registered dietitian and certified personal trainer. This books provides a good overview of basic nutrition principles. Kerri is also a qualified personal trainer and her expertise in this field is also incorporated into the book which we love!
